  1. THRESHOL in the noise gate

  The noise gate in the compressor does not really remove the noise in the music. It only works when there is no useful audio signal in the system. For example, when the leader whispers in a meeting, such a useless sound is The noise gate can be used to intercept it; but when the leader speaks loudly into the microphone, of course the noise gate cannot be intercepted, otherwise, how can it be possible if there is no sound coming out? The real situation is: when the useful audio signal in the system breaks the threshold level (THRESHOLD) of the noise gate, in fact, this threshold level has no effect, and the noise in the system will be mixed in the useful audio signal. It is transmitted together, but the noise at that time is masked by the useful audio signal, and we can't hear it. So a noise gate is not really able to remove any noise from normal audio signals, it does not moderately remove some of the noise from normal audio like a noise sampler in an audio workstation. If the noise gate is adjusted too high, the music will appear "breathing", it will be intermittent, so try to avoid this kind of artificial failure.

  2. THRESHOLD in the compressor Although the THRESHOLD in the compressor part and the THRESHOLD in the noise gate part are both a kind of threshold circuit, the functions and working states of the two are quite different. The two thresholds are in normal use. The THRESHOLD of the noise gate may not work 99% of the time, because most audio level signals will be higher than this threshold; and the THRESHOLD of the compressor may not work 70-90% of the time, The opposite is because most audio level signals may fall below this threshold.

  3. Compression ratio The adjustment of the RATIO compression ratio actually determines whether the compressor becomes a "compressor" or a "limiter". Its adjustment should be carried out in conjunction with the THRESHOLD of the compressor part. The compression ratio is too low. Works, too high sometimes damages the sound quality. Basically, a compression ratio less than 1:6 can be regarded as a compression function, and a compression ratio greater than 1:6 can be regarded as a limiting function. Of course, I personally think it is more appropriate to adjust the compression ratio around 1:3.

  4. There is a stereo chain key (StereoLink) in the stereo chain compressor, everyone should pay attention when adjusting, do not press this key accidentally, it will turn the stereo signal into a mono signal.

  5. Bypass: I often find that some audio engineers have bypassed the compressor and still don't know, and they can't tell what is a bypass state and what is a working state, so pay attention to this.
