It refers to the time process in which the energy of the sound wave is gradually reduced in the continuous reflection after the direct sound. The application of the word "mixed" here is very vivid, because the sound heard somewhere in the room is not always single, but chaotic from all directions. The reflected sound is usually referred to as the reverberation sound.

  In fact, reverberation (reverberation, also known as reverberation) refers to the phenomenon that the sound formed by repeated reflections from walls, ceilings, floors, furniture and people in a room persists and gradually decays. It is different from echo, which is not a smooth decay, but a sudden return of sound. For the most important indicator of room acoustics, the first is the reverberation time, which is the time it takes for the sound energy to decay to one millionth (60db) of the original intensity. For a determined room, the reverberation time mainly depends on for sound absorption. For the reverberation time of the Hi-Fi listening room, it can be 0.4~0.5 seconds. Moderate reverberation time can make the music fuller and the voice fuller. The reverberation time is longer and the sound is more lively and rich. However, when the reverberation time is too long, the sound is easy to be ambiguous, the speech intelligibility decreases, the music lacks strength and rhythm, and the reverberation time is too short. , the sound is dry and hard, lack of vitality, and the sound without reverberation (such as outdoor) is often dull, so it is necessary for a sound room to have proper reverberation.

  Why should the room absorb sound?

  What would happen if there were no sound absorbers in the room, and the room itself did not absorb sound? That is, once the sound is emitted, it will continue to reflect, and the sounds emitted before and after will be mixed together. For example, when a language broadcast is played in such a room, when the second sound appears, the first sound is still ringing, and when the third word appears, the sound of the first two words is still ringing at the same time... ., coupled with resonating sounds of different frequencies, so whether it is language or music, we will be completely indistinguishable (except for the first sound), let alone appreciate it, all we hear is a noise! Of course, these are only imaginations in an extreme case. In fact, since walls, air, and the human body all absorb sound energy, the reflected sound always fades away.
